RV Air Conditioner struggling to turn on

Hey guys,

I don’t know much about air conditioning so no time like the present to learn about them being an RV full timer. Just today for the first time we are noticing that our Bounder’s rear AC unit appears to be struggling to turn on.

This morning when it turned itself on it took 1-2 minutes to seemingly spin up to enough speed before it kicked on and started making cold air. So basically a low whirring sound and you could hear it slowly building up speed speed before finally kicking into that sound where the fan speeds up and the cold air comes out.

Up to this point it’s always just fired right up in a few seconds.

It’s a 2003 Bounder which we bought last year and have been living in it for the last year (two hot georgia summers now) so we’ve obviously been putting it through it’s paces more than it ever has in its lifetime so it’s totally understandable that a lot of this 15+ year old systems are feeling their age.

Would love any direction or advice. The A/C does start up and get going but it appears it’s having some trouble. We have two dogs in the rv and despite a lot of brushing and vacuuming we do see a lot of dander build up on the filters and I am constantly cleaning them. About 3 months ago i used a brush and cleaned the Air conditioners actual condenser (I think that’s right) fins off but hopefully it’s not clogged full of dog stuff haha

Thanks in advance,
-Brett

Is this problem only with only one A/C unit? Did you check the ped voltage? Sounds like its time for a Hard Start Capacitor on the compressor. Cost about $15.00. It may have one that is blown. If that doesn't help you may need a new unit. These aren't cost effective fixable.
