RV Comfort.zc - zones operate at same time

Just got a brand new Chap 360IBL. First night, hooked it in to generator 110V and was able to get living room AC running no problems.

Next day I tried to do it again, but it kept popping the circuit breaker on the generator. I didn't have time to troubleshoot, but now I am looking in to it.

Somehow my thermostat got messed up. I can't operate zones independent of each other. I have two zones... anything I do happens to both. So if I just turn the fan on, both fans come on. Needless to say the generator can't handle both AC's turning on.

I pulled the fuse for a few mins to try to reset the thermostat, no help. I thought maybe I was getting "dirty" power, so I tried to hookup to my house (110V 20amp) to see if I could at least operate the fans independently of each other - no go. Thermostat still stuck in mode where both zones function as one.

Any thoughts?

For a temporary fix turn off the 120 volt power to your second roof A/C unit at the circuit breaker in your power distribution box.
This may trick the T'stat into thinking you have only one roof A/C.

I reprogrammed the theromstat, basically reset it per the instruction manual and it's working a bit better, but still not 100% accurate. I wonder how sensitive it is to 12V power. I'm not sure how good my generator is working. My generator is tripping when running either front or back AC. The living room is 15k btu and the bedroom is 12.5k btu.

Attached are pics of my generator setup. This is a 3500W gen with surge up to 4400W. I looked up wattage on a 15k and it says startup 3300-3500W, running 1200-1800W. So I think this generator should be able to handle one AC. Unless the other is kicking on and immediately shuts it down.

See pics, I bought an adapter for my generator to use the plug. I believe I want the switch in 120V/240V.

It's more stable with a 25 ft 12 gauge extension cable. Can run one AC. I wonder if I need to switch it to 120V as opposed to 120/240V. The 240V does nothing for the RV, right? Just halfs the wattage and puts half on each line? So I won't be able to use the full wattage to run a AC like this, is that correct?

Attached are pics of current setup.

Your adapter from the gen set to the RV 50 amp cord plug , is supplying both hot legs legs with power ; how much each leg gets is a function of the gen set wiring ; and may be somewhere in the owners manual. Look for max load each circuit when switched to 120/240.

Plugging into the gen set 20 amp outlet with the extension , then using the spliter/ adapter at the side of the RV could possibly give the full 20 amps to one of the two hot circuits in the RV, and actually result in more power for the one circuit.

With only a 20 amp supply , marginal for A/C, you have to make sure everything else ( fridge, water heater , microwave ) is off of 120v power , and in the case of the fridge and W/H on propane.

EDIT : The start up draw on your 15btu unit may be at the limit of the power supply , if the circuit breaker continues to blow you may actually be under powering the A/C and possibly causing it damage.
