RV Fridge to Samsung RF 18

About 3-4 weeks ago, we traded our 2004 Dutch Star DP and purchased a 2010 Newmar Dutch Aire Model 4304 DP from Motor Homes of Texas in Nacogdoches, Tx. It came with the double door SS Norcold 1200 series rv fridge which I admit is working relatively well. I have not been a supporter of them for some time nor do I trust them. We are scheduled to have it replaced by MH of TX on Oct 15 with the Samsung SS 17.5 cu ft French Door Counter Depth model RF18HFENBSR. Our other choice was a GE 18.6 cu ft French Door Counter Depth model GWE19JSLSS @ $500 more. Over the past several years when the big push started with folks to replace their rv fridges with residential ones, Samsung was mentioned frequently as a choice. Reader comments on the Home Depot website for "both" is all over the board. What have members of this forums experienced reliability wise if the have changed to either the Samsung or GE models I mentioned? Good, bad,???

Just an FYI, GE Appliances Group was sold to Haier a couple of years ago. Haier is a Chinese company. I sold Haier refrigerators a couple of years ago, took them off my floor and dropped because of reliability issues. The GEs that I've sold over the last two years since Haier has purchased GE, I haven't seen many issues. Can't say the same for the new GE washers.

Had MOT swap out the Damnetic 1492 for a Sammy 18...Happy Camper...Ice cubes and ice creme that are truly frozen and the beer is cold.

haven't gotten around to building the carpeted "horseshoe' to keep doors closed yet, so use a rubber spoon for the french doors and velcro for the freezer slide out..

We installed the 197 Samsung about 5 years ago and it has been trouble free.

The only downside to it is that the ice cream is so hard you have to put it in the microwave to soften it up so it can be dished.

This is what we use to keep the doors closed.

Yup... That's the Horseshoe, The commercial velcro works really well on the bottom slideout for the freezer, especially if you have it loaded to the nutz with frozen fish, elk, Schwan's #668.... (& Ice cream !)
I have seen "commercial" latches, but I didn't want to drill holes for the screws (and void the warranty) or trust sticky tape..

Love the Samsung, it actually keeps things cold (beer). Ice Cream is too hard, we all have such a hard life!!! Safe Travels

Absolutely no regrets runs on stock MSW inverter while traveling. Just a side note IMO, I see almost ALL used Monaco’s for sale still have the Norcold’s in them, and most the 1200 LRIM fire hazard models a big turn off to me. Whether a private seller or at a dealer they would have to take A lot of dollars of the sale price for me.

Thanks all for ur comments. I remember seeing the padded homemade fridge lock mentioned before months ago in other posts but had forgotten. Have bookmarked this for future use on our future Samsung.
