RV generator
I have a 2006 Monaco Monarch SE rig with 5,500 Onan generator that won’t start. It only clicks when I press the switch at the generator. I suspect my batteries are dead. Are there any relays, solenoids, or voltage regulator between the converter and the batteries? Does anyone have wiring diagrams for this? My email address is leeneckers@gmail.com. Thx

Lee-
In July of 2020 I sent you six e-mail messages, each with different wiring diagram sets attached. Do you still have them?

Your battery is most likely from house set. Generator has a start solenoid relay the starter is spin to engage bendix so it's just a motor, no on starter solenoid. Could be starter, solenoid or poor connections. Might be the ground to frame nearby.

So you think the battery is not being charged?
Different RV's are wired differently. Mine has a circuit breaker/disconnect switch between the converter and the battery. Some have a relay controlled by a switch near the entry door. The relay would be near the battery or converter. Some have a high capacity fuse in a large cable near the battery.

Your first step should be to figure out if your house batteries are dead. Not too hard to do that.
Do you have a voltmeter?
If not, What does the control panel display say for the battery (on the panel that also reads water tank levels, etc)?
If you try to turn on lights, fans, etc inside the RV do they work?
Does your RV have a "salesman switch" aka Battery disconnect switch in the house to the batteries? Make sure it is on. Many RVs are set up to not allow batteries to be charged unless this switch is on.
To get power to your house batteries, try turning on your engine and let it idle. The alternator for the engine should also charge the house batteries (usually starting within seconds, but sometimes takes a few minutes...you should hear the solenoid "click"). If you have a volt meter you can test that your house batteries are getting charged by the chassis alternator while the engine is running (or see that your interior lights, fans, etc work). Let the alternator charge the house batteries like this for 10-15 minutes. Then, with the engine still running and the alternator still providing a charge to your house batteries, try to start your generator. Let us know what happens.

could be any number of things.
do you have a 'boost' switch which will connect the chassis batteries. if so does it start when the boost switch is pressed?
can you just attach a set of jumper cables from an auto or truck to the generator and try to start it just like you were jumpstarting a car with a dead battery? does it start this way.
you could have a generator problem or you could have a battery problem. at least isolate the problem to on or the other so you know where to look further.

I just sent you copies of the diagrams I sent to you in 2020. There are six messages; the first five have attachments. If you don't see the messages in your inbox, check your spam folder.
