Semi-queasy toilet question
The ball valve in the SeaLand commode does not hold a water seal for more than a few minutes. This, of course results in some extra-ordinary measures to keep the noxious odors out of the MH.
Are replacement valves or gasket seals available? Is it possible to replace the ball valve/seal without disassembling the entire commode?

Try spraying the assembly with Aerospace 303. Works wonders on mine when it won't hold water.

We had the same problem (I think we have the same toilet) and the simple fix for us was that once you flush the toilet then you pull the lever up to fill the bowl with some water. Seems the pulling up of the lever sets the seal and the water stays in the bowl till the next flush.

There could be some paper stuck preventing the valve to close completely.

I once bought a cleaner & lube that is suppose to help that seal. It worked for a few weeks but then back to not holding water. I will eventually get around to changing that seal also. I wish someone would answer who has changed it already as to whether or not you need to disassemble the camode or not.

Ok on a sealand toilet you remove the bottom plastic cover, there will be a large clamp around the top and bottom portion of the toilet, if i remember right there is a water line you have to disconnect going to the top bowl, if you remove the clamp it will seperate the top and bottom of the toilet, the seal sets in there. The problem could also be the spring cartridge in the pedle assembly, it is what holds the ball valve closed, it is behind the water valve. Make sure the toilet is empty and the water is turned off, as well make sure you get the right seal. If you buy a seal kit I think there is instructions with it. Make sure everything is nice and clean before reassembly to prevent leaks.

Hold your nose open the toilet trap and run the toilet brush around and down the tube a bit and even around the edges of the trap itself. Sometimes a buildup will occur causing this to happen. As previously mentioned a squirt of 303 Protectant does wonders to lubricate the seal as well. Good Luck!

If the above fixes don't work, call SeaLand, they have a kit that will fix it.

On mine the job requires.... One screwdriver, that's all, just one. Oh, gloves are nice, Nitrial or latex. (Or Playtex)

There's another thread going around now "How to video for RV'ers" it's under the MH - General Discussions & Problems. Some interesting information. Take a look at it. The fella that made it did a great job.

Another help when working on toilet if you have a Fantastic fan. Close all windows and door, open vent cover all the way and turn on fan blowing IN. Air pressure will allow you to work in reasonable fresh air.

After you remove the plastic cover around the base of the toilet you will find a large hose clamp. If it is too tight, or not tight enough that will cause a poor seal. Try adjusting the clamp both tighter and looser.
On mine, that didn't help and I changed the seals. On mine, it is two pieces and there is a proper order in their placement. Not really a bad job. Put a couple of news papers on the floor to set the toilet on when you pull it off. There is also a vacuum breaker on the back side of toilet that will pull out. don't forget to replace it when your reinstall the toilet. Oh, dump the black tank first and put about 10 gallons of water in it before you start.
This is a 45 minute job at most if you can get in position to work on it. Gives you time to enjoy a beer afterwards and stay within a 60 minute time limit.
