SenseStat Obstacle Detection System

Has anyone installed a SenseStat Obstacle Detection System?

According to their literature, it uses four sensors that attach to the rear of the trailer with a wireless connection to the digital display in the truck. Appears to provide excellent ability to judge distances while backing up.

I need something, since I'll be driving solo most of the time and my fifth wheel is 38' long. This system costs less than half the cost of a camera and has an audible output, meaning I can concentrate on my mirrors and still receive alerts.

Any experience with it?

Will the sensors detect a post or rock directly in the middle of the rear bumper? There are many components available to install a rear camera and dash monitor without having to buy a kit. I installed a 7" dash monitor, right side camera and rear camera for less than $75 using parts from Ebay. Since all new autos will be required to have rear view cameras in a year or so, prices are coming down.

Wow! $79. That's impressive! I don't expect to do nearly as well.

Since the unit has four sensors mounted along the rear bumper, I don't think it will have any blind spots.

My plan is to get out and walk around each campsite before backing in. If there are small objects on the ground (like stumps) or dangerously low objects overhead (like branches), I plan to place a traffic cone to mark them to ensure that I won't hit them. If it's a dog or other fast moving object, I'm assuming that they'll know enough to get out of the way if I go slowly.

The same company (VisionStat) offers a combination system with backup camera and integrated display. That"s the unit that I think will be the safest. Since it's a big fifth wheel (38') and I'm alone with no spotter, I want to be as safe as possible.

I was hoping someone on this network had used one.
