Shower Stopper

Does your shower stall have a "Stopper". Mine does it is original with the coach. Brass top section press or step on it and the stopper is engaged. The question I have is WHY have a stopper in the shower. Its not deep enough to hold more that a couple inches of water and you have to watch your step in the shower or you will step on it and water starts filling the bottom. The DW does this and then tells me the shower is stopped up, which it is not. Just press on the stopper and the top pops up and the water drains. Has any one replaced one of these with just a strainer?

I think a stopper in an RV shower is a calamity waiting to happen.

We have one in our shower/garden tub, sure is a nuisance. It appears to be a complete assembly that cannot be separated from above.

I certainly see the use in a garden tub but not so much in a shower. Just a wild guess but it could be that there is no P trap and the stopper is ment to be closed when not in active use?
Post back if you find out the real reason.

I don't think that is it I leave mine open all the time, no problems. It does look like this is something that could not be easily removed since it looks to be a a complete assembly as posted earlier. I would just like to know why a "Stopper". It servers no purpose.
