Splendide 2100 broken handle

We are now members of the "Splendide 2100 washer/dryer broken handle" club

This is a simple cheaply made plastic handle that apparently is not suited for the purpose - otherwise there wouldn't be that many people braking it when pulling it. It should clearly have been made in aluminium or similar.

When I say "cheaply made" I did obviously expect a replacement part price to match, but it seems I am seriously mistaken.

Only on-line parts dealer I can locate, that advertise a part, is PPL and they are asking $115 for a "handle kit". Talk about robbing people. This is a $3 plastic part.

I have Googled threads that talks about $45-$65 replacements but none of the links have been useful/active.

Have anyone found a place to buy a handle on-line? Somewhere where I don't have to involve my bank manager.

Here is a copy of an e-mail I just got from Westlandsales. I had the reply only minutes after writing them, which is nice.

We have a handle kit that is $40 plus $12 for ground UPS shipping. You can order by calling 800-356-0766 ext 5 or if you email me your billing/shipping address and phone number I will call you for a credit card.

Regards,

Ryan King

$40 compared to PPL's $117. I don't mind at all companies making a living, but PPL's price remains unreasonable in every which way you look at it.

PPL is off my list of suppliers for spare RV parts.

I also got mine from Westland about four years ago except that it was $25 then. Good Customer Service though.

X2 on the customer service at Westland Sales. They have very well qualified service tech guys answering the phones.

You are correct that the handle is poorly designed. I used to be a plastics engineer in my former life, and the Splendide handle definitely breaks several design rules for plastic parts.

We are on our second handle. Westland Sales is the best source I have found. As someone said, $40 plus $12 for shipping.

After we broke the first handle by repeatedly pulling on it trying to open the door before it was unlocked, we have been very careful not to even try to open the door unless the light was flashing. The second one broke as well - it just took longer.

Same here...broke the handle pulling on it before it was "unlocked". We bought a new one from Westland or about $70 including shipping and then I subsequently broke the glass "bowl" in the door replacing the handle !
I followed the directions, but even with a towel on the picnic table where I was replacing the handle, somehow I managed to knock the glass off the table .
The folks at Westland were very conciliatory and sold me a new door for the same price as the handle {can't just get the glass}.
Good luck!
