Can I put HE liquid laundry detergent with fabric softener (Tide HE detergent plus Downy)directly into the drum of my Splendide WD2100XC washer/dryer combo without using the dispenser. I have been using Arm & Hammer detergent pods until now, placing them directly onto the drum, with no problems that I could see. After reading various postings I now realize they are not recommended. My washer/dryer is in a cabinet higher off the floor and will require a step stool to put the detergent in the dispenser. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably. Just remember that it uses a tiny amount, maybe one tablespoon if that. If you see suds you put in too much. I've never used a liquid detergent and that's about how much we put in the dispenser. I'm 5' 8" and I can barely see the top of the dispenser. I just know which one goes where. From their FAQ:
"What kind of detergent/How much should I use?"
Answer: Your Splendide requires smaller amounts of laundry aids to get fabrics spotlessly clean and fresh. Use only 1-2 Tablespoons of any powder detergent (or liquid equivalent - MUCH LESS) per wash load. However, if you have access to them, low-sudsing, high efficiency (HE) detergents are designed for use in front-loading machines and are recommended.
Cat Coach...
I would suggest a call to Westland Sales.
