Steps don't work? Try this first
To anyone who has the dreaded "Kwikee" motorized steps, 2006 or later. Spent a frustrating Saturday fixing steps that suddenly stopped working after a trip. If it happens to you, try this BEFORE replacing the motor, gearbox, or control unit (but after you check the fuses):
"Locked Rotor State Test"
Unplug the 2 prong connector at the motor (it has a little plastic release). LEAVE the 4 prong connector connected.
Put your step lockout switch in the "off" position. (in the "off" position the steps retract each time the door is closed)
Cycle the entry door open and closed a minimum of 6 times, pausing 3-5 seconds between each opening and closing to allow the step control internal relays to reset each time.
Plug the 2 prong connector back into the motor body until it clicks.
Open/close the door and confirm the steps now extend and retract.
Whether it works or not, curse Kwikee and go have a beer
