Surge Guard Install

I just updated my Motor Home to a 2016 Journey and purchased a new hard wired Hughes Autoformer to install only to find I have a TRC surge guard 41260 transfer switch which they claim to have "limited RV Protection".

My question is can I install my Hughes Surge Protector to the output line of the current transfer switch or would I be wasting my money and time. I can still return it.

The Hughes Autoformer is typically installed in the shore power path to the transfer switch, not on its output - and before any power gating power protection device.

You don't want the gating power protection device shutting down on low voltage before the Autoformer gets a chance to correct it - would defeat the purpose of the Autoformer.

The 41260 is basically surge protection only.

YEP^^^

Provides protection against:
Power surges
Open neutral
Reverse polarity

Install the Hughes on the Shore power line BEFORE the Transfer Switch

Thank you for the answer, makes sense I guess. I was thinking about covering the Genny as well. I will install it on the input cable

Main function of a Hughes Autoformer is to correct low campground power pedistal voltage. So it has to be inline before any power checking device.

A hardwired Hughes Watchdog or similar can be installed after the transfer switch. Although most are installed inline to the campground pedistal, and consider the generator a trusted power source.

###

I've a portable Hughes Watchdog surge only at the campground power pedistal -> Hughes Autoformer -> hardwired Progressive Industries EMS -> transfer switch.
