Woot has some tankless water heaters on sale today very inexpensive.

The smallest model is $80 and the largest is $99

At this price you can afford to "tinker" with them.

Wow, I thought there would be a few people comment on this by now .... They won't be for sale tomorrow. I know I've read of quite a few people interested to try out tankless water heaters. At less than $100 on sale, if it doesn't work out not much was wasted to try.

None of these will work in an RV environment.. the ones that even have a 1/2 way decent flow rate are 240Volt units, RVs are 120Volt.

The only 120Volt rated unit only has a flow rate of only a 1/2 gal a minute at a 45° rise in temp. That would barely be a trickle - Plus it's consumption rate is 30 amps. That wouldn't allow you take a shower with the Air Conditioner on at the same time unless you had a 7500 watt generator or larger :-)

It may be true that nothing in the RV is currently using the 240 volts but 240 volts is available by just wiring to L1 and L2 inside the breaker box.

So yes, up to 12000 watts is available on 50 amp service.

Also the 0.5 to 1.0 gpm of 120 degree hot water needs to be mixed with cold water giving a flow rate good enough for a nice shower.

Ok so now the field is narrowed even more.... 30amp coaches need not apply! So you must have a 50amp coach and be plugged into shore for it to work... plus the extra breaker box for 240vac service...

This is essentially the use case for people wanting tankless. They already have a gas/electric 6 gallon water heater. Boon docking they run it on propane - which is fine because long showers can't be taken anyway with a fixed amount of water available in the fresh water tank only. However hooked to shorepower, they have unlimited fresh water from the campground, but don't want to keep burning the propane.....the 6 gallon heater also runs out of hot water quicker than they like. Using the gas/electric water heater on electric only usually results in decreased performance from what the propane was providing.

So...

You could keep the existing hot water heater, and plumb the tankless in as an alternative by just turning a couple of water valves and turning on the electrical breaker. Now without using any propane, unlimited hot showers are possible.
