Timer switch on Engine heater

I put my coach in storage at a garage several miles from me. A day or so later I realized I never turned the engine heater switch off. While this doesn't matter at the moment (I do remember shutting off the house power), I am worried I will leave the switch on when it does.

I am thinking of adding a 110v timer switch inline in front of the existing one. That way I could set it for a few hours and if I forget to turn it off the timer will do it for me. Has anyone tried anything like this or know of a reason why I shouldn't?

A timer should work but most people warm up the engine maybe right before the day leaving .

I don't know how the engine heater in your coach is wired but ours is plugged into an outlet in the electrical bay and controlled by a switch on the power center inside. A simple plug in heavy duty timer would work for that.

However we found that driving the coach to somewhere warm for the winter to be a more comfortable approach Now I use the outlet for the smoker or party lights that we can turn on and off from inside.

Spent this weekend doing a few odds and ends on the old girl. While i was at it I went ahead with the timer. I wired it before the switch (so that I can still see the red light and turn it off manually if memory allows). I'll let everyone know how it works. It is similar to the timer on a toaster oven...you twist it to the number of hours you would like the heater to be on (maximum of 12).
