Transfer Switch not holding
Had AC with shore power last night on the road today with Genny running noticed AC was not working breakers good but noticed hearing transfer switch clicking not holding turned off gen opened box check connections all good tapped on the relays with back of screw driver started gen alls good. But after awhile of driving noticed no AC checked transfer switch noticed it was clicking again and not holding tapped on the the relays again while gen was running and nothing it didn't switch over. So I noticed there is a small circuit board in there too. So which direction should I proceed when I get home?

I would look at the contact points maybe put a file on them see if that helps. That would be the end of my trouble shooting. I would go ask the manufacturer.

Clicking is a sign of low voltage to relay coil

Ensure all the wire connections in the xfer switch are tight. Check voltage from generator. If all ok and issue persists sounds like likely transfer switch. If it fails solid or to the point of often, you can bypass it direct to either genny or shore cable.

Will be looking at it tomorrow, I did check all connections while on the road seemed ok. I'll check voltage at switch from gen tomorrow. Was working ok yesterday.

I would bet it is a bad transfer switch. We had a similar situation a few years ago. I opened the transfer box and the mess that was in there made me shut the entire electrical system down. I bought a new, different brand, transfer switch and installed it. Problem was gone. The old one was a total mess with burnt contact points, overheated wires, and an overheated container box. The new one was of a much more simple design. I have not had a problem since. Then OEM transfer switch was no longer being produced and the replacement was a much better design.

Mine looks fine it's neatly wired and clean through out. The switches seem to be solid state from what I can tell.

I was having a similar problem on my TC, power would shut down and breakers were fine.
There was a cheap $2 relay feeding from the batteries that was being thrown. Sounded like a loud clicking. I heard it outside of my unit, replaced it from AutoZone, and all is well.

I will probably take this switch off on the right and see if it's serviceable? I found one online for around $30

I'm thinking that board that runs underneath the two switches is what makes it intelligent, and maybe those are actually solid state switches and they may not be serviceable?

I do not believe these are solid state. They look like typical definite purpose relays. They have electric coils. Any clicking or chattering is most likely due to low coil voltage. There are no serviceable parts in these kinds of relays

I could not duplicate the problem I had on the road but I did remove both contactors and really didn't see anything unusual but did clean them with a small new brass brush.

You are correct. I think the solid state board linking the two together under the contactors is what makes them smart. Also I noticed after putting everything together that there is a programmed delay in the generator contactor before it pulls in to jump across to the panel side. I assume so that the gen. is up and running at rpm before it pulls in. On the shore power side when you plug in it's instant. Nice how you learn some things by being aware and listening.

Ours started the same thing. Fine on shore power and then gen it kept dropping out, the transfer switch that is. So I figured it was worn out. Installed a new one with all the protections etc. and am happy. All working great and now have low voltage protection, bad wiring protection etc. Worth the extra money I think.
