vacuum breaker?

sorry for spelling this at my house there is a pvc pipe that connects by the p-trap it runs to the right then up and down. appears to have a vent on the top
problem is this sink drains slow i have removed the p-trap it was clean the tub and tolit are fine do you clean these replace them or is there something else i need to look at.

It is an air admittance valve. There is a flap inside. The top should screw or pop off so you can check or replace the flap. It allows air into the drain system. Unless you have a clog somewhere beyond it, it sounds like the valve needs a replacement flap.

thanks yes the top screws off this house was empty (Forcloser) for some time that gives me a start first time i have owned a house with this

If the drain starts working correctly when you removed the top and the valve flap then its time install a new flap. If you cant easily find a new flap you may just have to cut it off and replace the entire unit.

ok a update it is a simple design i removed it the drain worked fine the rubber diaphragm was stuck i soaked it in hot soapy water and cleaned it. reinstalled it works fine now ill
go to town and see if i can get one
