Was this an anomaly? Thermostat malfunction.
Memorial Day weekend we were on our 3rd night of boondocking on the beach with our generator running and both a/c’s on the whole time. Woke up hot at 2 am to discover the front a/c not running at all and the rear a/c’s fan running but no compressor. The thermostat was reading 00 degrees and was completely unresponsive to any input. (I don’t remember what it had on the readout otherwise)
Waking up like that from a dead sleep I wasn’t thinking clearly and I turned the generator off and back on, tripped both a/c breakers off and on which had no effect on the thermostat being “stuck” and unresponsive. I pulled the front cap out and checked the generator breaker (dumb I know), I looked for a fuse to the thermostat so I could try to reset it. I finally came to my senses and turned the salesman switch off for a few seconds, then back on and viola the thermostat is now working correctly and everything works as it should the rest of the night and all the way home on Monday. I included a couple pictures of the thermostat just for brand / type reference.
I’m curious on theories of why this happened.

thermostat overworked? We’ve boondocked in much hotter conditions. It was high 70’s at night, 80’s during the day. High humidity of course. Compressors were cycling, not running constantly.

More than likely caused by noise by a 12v item. This tstat uses a data line. It took me over a month to track my issue down. Turned out to be a 12v walwart that powered my HDMI to Cat5 conversion system for my main TV. This TV is located near the hallway tstat install. Have been trouble free since replacing the bad walwart.
If this is a one-on event I wouldn't be concerned. If the tstat begins doing strange things I would concentrate on 12v items. Have you added any new items recently? My issue was so bad that the tstat would turn systems randomly on/off, fan no fan. Had a window ac unit in my dining room window for a month.

What is a walwart?
I will have to think about if anything has changed. But I don’t think so and we had been asleep for hours so weren’t playing with any 12v tech, other than flipping lights on and off going to the bathroom. They are all LED now but were changed over years ago. Some are LED tubes that replaced fluorescent.
Hopefully it was a one time anomaly. Now I know what to do if it happens again.

A walwart is the black ac to dc or ac step down transformers you plug into an outlet.

Oh dang. I have several of those plugged in all the time. 2 that run led strip lights and 2 or more phone chargers.
And 2 that add outlets and include USB ports.
