Water heater replacement

Are the water heaters as easy to replace as they look like they are?

We have a half dozen melted wires in ours so I assume it is junk.

They are somewhat an easy swap if the wires are not fried back to the fuse box

Easy to do if they are easy to get to.

What wires? 12V or 120V? What happened?

2 hours since you first posted ; are you finished replacing it yet?
Complete replacement ; if necessary: is about a 2 hour job, doing it for the first time , second time should only take you an hour.
Most all electrical components can be replaced without removal , but the cost may come close to the complete assembly.

Dead short somewhere
Is this on the 120 VAC wires or the 12 VDC wires that are melted?
You might just need to repair your wiring and find the cause.......
The electric element?

There's no sense in replacing the WH until you find and fix the problem.

I'm going to "guess" that you have an obstruction in your burner tube which caused the propane to ignite outside of the tube. Ours would not light one time so I went out to the water heater and had DW push the light button so I could observe what was happening. Flames shot back at me enough to burn my eye brows. Cleaned the tube and everything has been fine since.

Can you post a picture ?
I assume this is around the inside of the water heater, not behind the cover outside.

Exactly what happened to mine when a spider built her nest in the burner tube. I evicted the spider family, replaced and/or spliced the wires, and was back to normal.

Melted wires and one connector behind the outside cover.
