Water pump filter delete

The weak link in my pipes has always been the mesh filter and housing just off the Sureflo water pump. Blowing out the pipes isn’t enough, I have always had to remove the thing prior to winter storage to avoid a freeze and break situation. I dislike antifreeze in my lines so I won’t do it.

The new Class A we just purchased had this issue from last winter. I had enough. This time I replaced the thing with a section of quality pex and deleted it altogether. I now have an even better inline filter with replaceable cartridges up under the kitchen sink inside for easy access. A little extra pipe and some connections and I will worry no more.

I suspect the little filter just before the pump is to catch any small contaminates that could be in your tank.

Scale from hard water is most likely, but if you are keeping your tank and lines clean, you should be fine.

If you see your pressure dropping, or the pump not shutting down like it should, maybe there is something in the valves in the pump.

After initial fill/drain and using pump I have yet to find ANYTHING in that pump strainer.


I use pump/fresh water tank exclusively....just a blue in-line filter on hose when filling fresh water tank



Removing strainer should not cause any issues..........
