Water pump wonít shut off

I have checked all faucets in bath, kitchen and lower bay for possible leaks and saw nothing. When off of city water pump works fine but continues to slowly prime at a slower rate than when water is on. Any suggestions, air in line somewhere and where would I bleed that? Thanks

The first thing I would check would be the valve that switches from city water to tank fill. I just had to replace the internals of mine due to the rubber washer getting hard.

When connected to city water the pump should not run unless city water is lower then pump start set point

Pump pressure switch controls pump start/stop

W/O city water connected pump running and no demand means 'leak' or pump pressure switch is not opening

Does pump run & run or does it cycle on/off?
Run & run.....that means pump is not fully pressurizing the system
*Fill valve if you have one ---leaking thru
*Bad Pressure switch

Cycles on/off
*city water check valve leaking 00water dripping from connection
*pump check valve leaking...backflow thru pump
*water heater T&P Relief Valve weeping
*Any connection/fitting some TP on/around/nar fittings/tees/toilet water inlet etc and check later for dampness

Be sure your fresh water tank isnít low. That will cause the pump to run continuously.

When that happened to us, it was the O rings that had died.

Lots of good advice above!

There may be an anti-freeze siphon tube and valve. If set to suck anti-freeze it will only get air and not pressurize.
