Does any one have any experience with water purification systems that use ozone. At the FMCA rally last week I spoke to the people at Tru-Pure Ozone. They have a system for handling only drinking water and a separate system for the tank.

Any thoughts about purification systems would be appreciated.

We solved our water problems by building in a RO system that fills the main tank. Same water quality wherever we go.

If you do a little research online you'll find that most reliable sources will recommend a carbon block system over a RO system, (exception being RO system manufactures.) RO water is considered "Hungry Water" since it lacks trace minerals that are natural in water. This hungry water attacks calcium in our bones and teeth as well as non-plastic plumbing. The final decision is obviously your call. Good luck with whatever you decide.

We use a sediment filter at the water inlet and a carbon block with KDF at the water into the rig (our was already plumbed for a filter that is after the water in/water pump) and it has worked very well for us.

If we were realy concerned then I would add an ozone system as we have it on our home well and it works extremely well.

The important thing o the filters is to get high-flow/small micron (we had 3-4 gallons/minute flow for eafch filter and 5 microns on sediment and 2 (might be less) on the second filter. Also, change themn regularly!

Ozone systems are primarily designed to kill bacteria. However, the problem with most water supplies tends to be bad taste and an unpleasant odor. For that, a simple charcoal cannister based filter will do the trick. The most economical ones are under-sink models that utilize standard 10 inch cartridges. Sears has a model that fits the bill.

If you plan to travel to Mexico, bacteria could be a problem at some campgrounds but most RVers don't drink the water there anyways. They drink bottled water and use the campground water for bathing and cleaning. The bottom line? Ozone based systems don't make a lot of sense in an RV. Best of luck.

That's what I was thinking too, Jack. The UV systems are in the same category. I have a sediment filter (whole house)outside, and a PUR faucet filter for the bathroom, the kitchen has an under-counter drinking water filter.
I recommend PUR faucet filters, if your faucet will accept them. They have a high filtration rate, and they shut themselves off when depleted to the point they cannot reliably remove contaminants.
