What are the causes for the GFCI Plug Tripping?

My CFCI plug in my bathroom trips occasionally. I don't use that plug for anything. I don't use electrical appliances, except for the microwave.

It isn't a big deal, except when I plug in my phone to charge and the plug isn't working and the phone isn't charging.

Any suggestions at what I should be looking at for the cause?

Thanks

PS - I read up on what the CFCI does and how it gets tripped but I don't know where to look.

Sometimes a GFCI just needs to be replaced.

A GFCI is designed to trip when there is leakage of 5 milliamps or more of current to ground. Simply put, there is more current going into the device than there is coming out. That "leaking" current can electrocute you if it becomes more significant. Leakage can be caused by a number of things. Suggest you google GFCIs for more information on how they operate. Over time, GFCIs can also become defective and depending on why they were tripping, replacement might stop what you are experiencing.

Thanks, I'm full timing, it trips very infrequently, I was wondering if it had another reason. I use a Progressive serge protector so I don't think that is an issue.
