Disconnect the 6 volt battery as soon as possable.

Your original battery is not 6 volt, it a dead 12 volt battery.

Conecting them as you did will damage the new one.

Since you have one new 6 volt battery, pick up another 6 volt battery and connect them in series.

Then you will have 12 volts to your house systems.Click image for larger version

Correct, the 6 volt battery was all that was powering. The house battery switch won't even work on 6 volts.

Once you hook 2, 6 volt batteries in series, you will have 12 volts, and yes in most cases, 2, 6 volt batteries will give you more capacity then 2, 12 volt batteries, except for huge or expensive ones.

Also is there a discount switch somewhere on this system or is it the switch in the bedroom that states shore or generator?

Plumkrazy - where are you located?

DocDon - I see you are in San Pedro. I am near you in Torrance. You say you have a '89 Fleetwood Southwind. I have an 85 and have spent many hours reverse engineering the various systems, especially the electrical.
Maybe we can cross paths one evening (maybe at Dennys?) and share notes. I may be able to help.

Mike

Do Tell! Name/Address of that motorhome wrecking yard you mention...

Although we live couple hours away there are a few items needed on "Sweetie" that abandoned RV's will likely have. Could make a list and drive there some day.

Thanks! - Art and Linda
