When not in use put in fridge

I bought a camco water hose filter. It says when not in use put the caps back on and store in refrigerator. Is this necessary?

Cold storage helps minimize 'growth' from water left in filter

Filters are cheap. If your storing for a long time, just get a new one. Might also want to look at a whole house filter at Lowes or such.
