Why is Victron Battery Charger Not Working?

I posted earlier thinking it was my LiTime Po4 12v lithium battery that was malfunctioning. But it's not the battery.

It turns out it is the Victron battery charger.

The lights are no longer illuminated, which can only tell me it is not operating.

I bought it brand new in Oct 2024.

I had it installed professionally by a certified RV Technician.

He is ghosting me so he doesn't have to come out and troubleshoot.

I need help. What should I do?

Is there 120VAC getting to the charger? No lights makes me think it might be a good charger but bad power source.

Did that technician supply the equipment and profit from the sale of said equipment? Was a warranty offered on the equipment install and system?
You as the equipment owner-operator should have enough knowledge and some resources, tools, meters, to determine if the system is working properly and at least determine if you have a charger or battery problem when it doesn't. Having Lithium, you should also know the batteries can be disabled by the internal BMS and that they may need a reset from an outside source. Some chargers will not be able to start charging a "shut down" battery.

My similar Victron did the same thing in my sailboat. It was still under warranty, but took two months to get it replaced as no dealer close by. No more Victron for me! Just my opinion…

If the installer fused the charger input and output check those first. The installation instructions for my Victron DC DC charger specifies 60A external fuses. Oddly it shows the same size fuses for the 18A, 30A, and 50A models.

Why system suppliers and installers need to make profit on parts. Often, we eat the parts and labor again. Electronics? Where the customer is the test and QA department.

***UPDATE: Victron Battery Charger

Hey Everyone!

Thank you all for your replies -- this forum is full of wonderful people!

The technician eventually texted me, suggesting I unplug it and plug it back in. And guess what? Voila!

Phew!

I have learned soooo much this 1st full year living in my RV! A lot of things happened I had to work through, and I did it.

Canadian winters aren't easy, but I made it through 2 weeks of -25°C and lower, and 50 centimeters (19.6 inches) of snow.

March is always the worst month in Alberta - volatile! So . . . here we go!

Congrats!! And thanks for sharing the tip. I've learned that a 12V reset on my coach solves all kinds of issues - and I still don't have a clue why...

You're welcome, and thanks! Never a dull moment, but I wouldn't trade this lifestyle for anything!

I had the same thing happen recently after a very hard freeze. All of a sudden was getting no power in from my panels. I first tried flipping the breaker I have from the panels to the controller. Then I disconnected one wire going into the controller and checked the voltage from the panels. All good. Reconnected, still nothing. So, I figured I'm just going to reboot the whole thing. Flipped the panel breaker off, turned off the batteries via the battery cutoff switches to each one and let it sit for 10 minutes. Put battery power back on, put solar power back on. Fixed.

Well THAT got me thinking! My issue did happen after 2 solid weeks of -18°C to -30°C.

Thanks for the helpful share - it's going in my ever-growing digital tool box
