Winterizing Dometic Ref. Icemaker

File this away for use when you must winterize this winter.

There’s always been an issue with winterizing the water supply to the icemaker. My original method was messy and left part of the line in question. The method described below is perfect for both winterizing and putting the system back in service.I learned this procedure from Dometic and my RV Service while troubleshooting a water leak in my refrigerator.

Here are the steps if you use the red stuff.

1. Winterize in the normal fashion up to the point where you must deal with the icemaker.

2. Keep the system pressurized with the lines full of the antifreeze.

3. Manually open the icemaker supply valve.

4. The existing water in the line and new antifreeze will flow into the icemaker as long as the valve is open and there is pressure on the system.Any overflow will go into the ice storage container.

5. When pure antifreeze is seen in the icemaker storage container, close the icemaker supply valve.Your icemaker is now winterized.

MANUAL OPERATION OF ICEMAKER INLET VALVE

1. You must have 120V connected to the RV.

2. When 120V are supplied to the inlet valve, it will open.

3. There are two male spade connections on the inlet icemaker valve. The normal icemaker 120V control is connected with two female spade connections to these terminals and controls the water flow to the icemaker.

4. There is almost always a 120V receptacle near the rear of the refrigerator. That receptacle can be used to supply 120V to the icemaker inlet valve.

5. A supply cord must be fabricated to get the 120V from the receptacle to the icemaker inlet valve. It can be fabricated from a standard drop cord by removing the female end of the cord and crimping two female insulated spade connectors to each wire at that end.Make sure your new female connectors are of the proper size to fit the male connectors on the valve.

6. To manually operate the valve, disconnect the two normal control female spade connectors from the valve. With your supply cord disconnected from the 120 receptacle, connect the supply cord female connectors to the valve.Either female connector to either male connector on the valve.

7. The icemaker inlet valve will open when you connect your supply cord to the 120V receptacle.

If you don’t want any antifreeze left in the icemaker when you put the icemaker back into service, just open the valve manually and flush it out with fresh water. Then reconnect it normally.

You can use the same procedure of manually opening the icemaker inlet valve if you winterize with air.

Good Luck!
