Xantrex Freedom 458 inverter problem

Went to the coach today, batteries low on charge, plugged it in and it showed drawing 11 amps sat for awhile tried starting engine, no go. Started the genny and the draw dropped to 1 amp. Shut down genny stayed at 1 amp. Checked the inverter the red light over temp was blinking, unplugged everything and waited red light keeps blinking, Ideas?

Don't know if the Discovery has a cut-off switch for the chassis batteries, and another for the coach. If you do, shut off the chassis, and try charging just the coach for a while. Also, check your inverter to see if it is operating properly. You might also try unplugging the telephone type wires on the front of your inverter for about a minute, then plugging them back in, and try charging.

I assume you know that the inverter is also your battery charger?

You should check the condition of the batteries. Are they original? The inverter and generator are connected to the house batteries. If the engine does not crank over the chassis batteries are probably too low on voltage. Check chassis and charge the house batteries if need be with a free standing charger to check their condition.

The only reset I am aware of, besides that of the circuit breakers, is to disconnect the remote panel via the data cable for a few minutes. You may also try disconnecting the battery bank from the inverter too. You should still test the batteries as one could be bad bringing the whole system down with it.

Just out of curiosity, did you leave the coach unplugged - no battery charge for quite a long time? I always leave my coach plugged in just to keep the batteries charged. I read somewhere that it is better to always keep the charger going when in storage - long or short. Of course, this means you have to check the water levels in all the batteries every week or two. Would appreciate any feedback on possible damage to batteries, such as overcharging, etc.
