Xantrex Freedom XC Battery Charging

I am going to replace my dying converter with the Xantrex Freedom XC 1000W inverter/charger. I understand it has auto switching capabilities but looks like you can turn off the inverter function. I want to be able to not have the inverter auto switch with loss of AC power and draining batteries. If I turn the inverter off via the power button, will this prevent it from auto switching and will the batteries still charge if the power button is turned off (with AC present of course).

It does work the way you want. My biggest criticism is that the indicator lights on the remote for external power and inverter are both green and close together, so it is hard to tell when the power switches. There is no audible when it switches. Also it is difficult to tell if the inverter power switch is on or off on the remote. The button is not lit.

Thanks! Everything is ordered and will be installing this weekend. Sounds like it should work for what I want.

I have the inverer installed and wired and everything worked perfectly. I am installing the remote panel but the provided wire is about a foot short. I have a RJ12 cable, but it seems to be wired different than Xantrex cable. Do you know if they wired cable differently than a standard RJ12 cable?

The RJ12 I purchased from Amazon would not work with the Xantrex Freedom 2000. The RJ12 from Xantrex does.
