Hi,

I have a question to those that have the same Xantrex inverter RC/GC control panel.
The problem i'm having that is when I am not hook up to shore power and the inverter in inverting, if I want to turn off the inverter from the panel, it doesn't do anything.
I have to go outside and turn the inverter of on the unit itself.
Is this normal or is either my panel or inverter faulty.
Below is a picture of what the panel looks like.

No, not normal. You should be able to start or stop the inverter from the RC/GS panel. Go through the set-up menu and make sure everything is set correctly.

We have that same panel and can turn the inverter on and off just fine. Our problem is that it won't start the gen set at all. Some years ago I spent a bunch of time on the phone diagnosing it and never did get it to work. I bought the RC7 GS unit off eBay which may be why it was for sale there.

Thanks Rex. I know I have double checked and played around with it but no go.
I will go through the setup again just incase I missed something.

Mr_D, if you have the RC7, then this might be your problem on the GEN start.
I believe it is only the RC/GS that has the function of GEN start.

If I can't figure it out, I wonder if I can send my panel to someone that would plug it into there system and see if the panel is working correct.

Xantrex is no help, all they want to do is sell me a new panel.

Here is a picture of our panel, note that it says RC7 GS. Also, it has a clock setting, time to run, and a bunch of other settings, including which gen set we have.
There is no mistake.

You are right. Looks like there are several versions of these.
But yours is gen remote start. There is maybe something wrong with wiring to the genset.

I have the manuals and they show an RC6, RC7 and RC7 GS model. (I can send you a copy of it, they're in .pdf format) We had the RC6 which doesn't have the Gen start so I had to add three signal wires from the inverter to the generator and replace the RC6 with the RC7 GS. They use the same wiring from the inverter to the controller. They are working correctly as diagnosed by Xantrex. The Gen starts fine off the OEM switch and I can get a click out of the relay if I set the make for the gen to Onan. BUT we have an 8.0 Power Tech. If I set the RC7 to the correct generator I get nothing. I can start the gen with the OEM switch and stop it with the RC7 GS so it's close.
If I could swap out a known good RC7 GS for mine and give it a try I'd know for sure.

If it's anything like my Samlex inverter, the switch on the inverter has to be "off" to use the control panel on/off switch. If you turn the switch on the inverter "on", the switch on the remote panel doesn't do anything.

Thanks I will double check but mine if the switch on the inverter is OFF, the the whole unit is OFF.
