Installed 2m/70cm unit in RV
Finally finished Installing 2m/70cm/APRS unit in RV.
All fiberglass so trying a through the glass antenna.
Know the current wife would not approve of holes drilled.
Will try a Thursday night net to see if it works.
Plan to monitor 146.52 on the road.
Had good luck the two times I put out a call on 52 while in a traffic jam on the way to and from the eclipse with an HT.
Outside antenna should make things much better.

Send your wife out to get a manicure and a pedicure. While she is gone, get the drill out and punch a hole in the roof. The first hole is always the hardest, the next hole is a lot easier

Agree, I don't have a problem with holes. Do them right and no problem.
That said I primarily use the rear ladder as antenna mounting point for 2M/440 and HF antennas. Then a radio with separate radio unit (mounted in rear compartment, near the antennas) and control head (in living area). Orginally a Kenwood 580 (HF), now a icon 7100 (2M/440/HF).

No ladder.
No easy access to under RV roof.
RV all fiberglass.
Through glass was the easy way.

VSHEETZ, I hope that you are still receiving notifications for this thread. I'm looking at installing a 7100 as you have described. How far above your roof top does the dual band antenna extend? What are you using for an HF antenna?
If you happen to have a photo of the antenna set up, I'd be grateful if you'd post it.
Thanks and 73,
