Key down on 40 M causes slide to activate
I have been operating SSB on 20 & 40 meters for some time with great results with my hustler mobile antenna on the top of the ladder. (when parked at the campsite) Today I went into CW mode key down (100 watts) on 40 to check the SWR.
To my surprise, when I keyed down, my slide lock opening annunciator came on and said the slide locks were opening. (very scary to me and my YL) Obvious RF overload. As I stopped transmitting immediately, so the slide didn't move.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Not exactly that, but for a while keying up did cause my backup camera to come on. I was able to fix it by rerouting a cable and putting a couple chokes on a feed line. But that's the problem with RF -- it's a sneaky little rascal that can show up where you don't want it, and not so much where you do.

I was going to suggest adding a couple of ferrite chokes to the control cables for the slide controls.

I'm happy with the products I have bought from these folks. They are happy to help you find the right way to mitigate your RFI issues.

I operate only digital via Verizon Jetpack, OpenSpot3 and HT's. I had to switch everything from VHF to UHF because my Norcold circuit board didn't like VHF regardless of how low transmit power I used. At least UHF works.

My kitchen GFI would click off if I was near it while keying up my HT on 2 meters.
GFI failed a few years later. New on woks fine.

Two possible solutions...
1. Add an RFI Choke at the input to the antenna and possibly a common mode choke at the radio. I think that should cure the problem for all of the issues.
2. If not, a type 31 ferrite at the wiring to the slide and other electronics being compromised.
Likely the shielding on the coax is acting as an antenna and a lot of rf is coming back down rather than being sent out into the air. An RF Choke should be great and they are pretty simple to build. Same with a Common Mode choke that would keep RF that comes down the coax from entering the shack. It's possible a common mode might solve the problem by itself..
