My first radio as well, did not regret it, plus it makes a great backup when you buy that big base radio. Lol.

I just installed my first ham radio, a Yaesu FT-400dr/xdr. Been on the air a day and love this radio.
Taking the general this coming Saturday, then off to shop for another with hf.
Looks like this can get addicting

Hi Steve; how did the General test go? I'm about a month behind you in the licensing process. Just signed up for the Ham Test Online software program. Looks pretty bullet-proof! Now that I'm retired, I can get more time devoted to it and get my ticket!

Yes I passed the general exactly three weeks aft the tech. They asked all the right questions
Jump right in, I'm having a blast talking with local guys on vhf/uhf. Still haven't decided on my next radio. Had some thoughts about putting a base station in our motor coach, but then I will not be spending that kind of time on a radio while vacationing.
Best of luck Joe, it's pretty simple except the extra imo. It's going to take a few months for me to understand the extra material.
Thx for asking Joe.
Steve

Great to hear. The extra is not all that hard really. Go for it.

Congratulations Steve! Now if my brain has a few more storage windings left, I'll have my ticket by end of summer! I'm going to try to get my oldest brother's Call - N9ASL - as he went SK in 1993.
Best!
