I read Handy Bob's info on solar and built a system like he did.
I even emailed him once or twice to get some help.

I used telecom batteries and everything was still working after 5 years when we sold the MH.

I did my own a few years ago, with zero experience and it works fantastically. You can do this. What I learned from my initial choices (and changing out a couple years later) is to use a MPPT solar controller and a series/parallel wiring of the panels. You want lots more than the battery charging voltage coming down from the array, so you are getting some charge even in lower light, shade, or clouds. PWM controllers won't give you this.

I also heartily recommend Victron components. The performance and bluetooth information is fantastic for managing your state of charge off grid.

You can totally do this.

IMO, the best YouTube channel for solar installs and information is Explorist Life DIY Campers. The videos are excellent! He (Nate) has a website as well.

I found it to be a very worthwhile effort. 400 watts of panels, 400aH of AGM batteries, a Victron 100/30 controller and a battery monitor, 2000w inverter, wires, panel mounts . . . all for about $1800 on Amazon. Now I run most of my lights at night, TV is on, laptop is on, two vent fans if it's hot, furnace fan if it's cold, weather radio plugged in, cell booster running, microwave for multiple meals, phone charger, camera battery chargers, vacuum cleaner charger, drill charger - and if it's sunny, I'm fully charged the next day by noon.

Just always remember - volts times amps equals watts.
