Experience with Renogy 12v 100AH Lithium Batteries?

I got an email from Renogy saying their batteries have dropped to $799 for the 100AH 12v Lithiums - shipped.

I am trying to search online and see a ton of reviews and youtube videos on the battleborn (many seem sponsored) but don't see much of anything on Renogy.

Does anyone have any experience with them or heard concerns/negative reviews? Renogy seems to have a pretty good reputation in the solar market but not sure that automatically would transfer to this technology.

$799 sounds like too expensive to me.
I have 1200ah pack made of Calb cells. You can get it new from Calb vendors for about half of price.

There is a guy in PA selling a generic brand 12v 100ah lithium for $500

That is a great link! Thank you for sharing. I was in the process of looking at battleborn batteries, but at 950, I was having a really hard time justifying. 799 was better and a 500 is great.

The 1200ah pack you have - does it have a BMS built in?

Not built in from the cell manufacturer but I added a BMS on and have been using the pack for 4 years by now.

I have had people bring some renogy solar kits to me and ask for help to install them.

Virtually every single item was either under sized for the task or marginal in some other way. Ultimately I just adopted a policy of not installing anything they offer.

That is the (2nd) last company that I would ever trust to buy a LiFe battery from. I had to add the (2nd) in to account for another really terrible inverter supplier.

It was in 2014 I saw an ad on CL for CALB cells. I called the seller and came to know that he bought those cells to convert his car into an EV but his interest had shifted and he had never executed the plan. The deal was sweet so I drove about 700 miles and got them. I consider I was purely lucky back then.

At today's market, you can still get 3.2v 100ah CALB cells for $120/pc. You need 4 of them in series to make it 12v nominal.

I think it is really important that lithium batteries have a built-in battery monitor to have reliable SOC numbers

Sure is. But one doesn't have to buy a commercially sealed pack with BMS built in as only one knows where to get it and how to set it up.
