I wish I had found a deal like that when I built my system. I absolutely would have picked lithium over AGM.

I am not unhappy with my current bank now and up front price did fit my situation at the time. My next bank will be at least 400 AH of lithium.

I think the days of $1000 for 100ah lithium batteries is gone. I'm seeing several brands for under $500.

I plan to install a BIM from Solar Energy Systems. Not sure how to wire it in to protect the alternator, but I have seen some articles on this forum relating to the install. Still researching.

If someone can confirm that this BMI device will indeed protect the alt from overheating, I would appreciate comments on how to connect it, or what I really need to do if this is not correct. This is the only piece of the conversion that I am not sure about.

You’ll need a dc to dc charger to protect alt something like this below, the BIM does not have alt protection

I would NOT use that device. I have a DC-DC charger and it works perfectly, protects the alternator, and is a smart charger that allows me to adjust the charging parameters. I went with a Victron Orion similar to the one mentioned above (2 in parallel actually) and have had no issues since installing after thinking.....Hey, I don't need to worry about that, I have a 200A alternator, it can handle 6 LiFePO4 batteries..................NOT!!!

The LiM product is kinda like running your car at 100 MPH and then coasting for a couple of miles to let it cool off, and then speeding back up to 100 MPH and then coasting, etc, etc... Certainly better than nothing but really not the best solution.....DC-DC charger is the best way to go

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll look into that. Wasn't really sure that the BIM was the right thing to use or not.

Since my converter is not compatible with lifepo4 batteries.
I going to us a DC to DC charger to charge the battery from the alternator and the converter both. To do this I will install a SPDT relay with the converter connected to the normally closed pole. And the alternator connected to the normally open contact.

Warranty - who would provide warranty if needed?
Renogy specs indicate 50Amp Max Continuous Charge Current vs 100 Amp for battle born.

So on that "Continuous Charge Current" if you are running a Genny or have Solar putting out say 100 Amps and 2 of these Renogy batteries would it be split among them and therefore charge at max efficiency? Sure would hate to upgrade but then have the batteries not charge at full speed.

Have you tried the LI-BIM ?

Since the BIM is connecting the chassis bank to the house bank, not connecting the alternator directly to the house bank, and the alternator is regulated by the chassis battery, is it really like going 100 miles MPH and then coasting ?

I'm wondering if its more like climbing a hill for 15 minutes and then cruising flat and level when its disconnected, allowing a cool down.

Anyone using a LI-BIM have any comment ?
