Solar Panel Breaker

All,

What are you using for the solar panel side breaker? I'm pushing 65V through my current series/parallel setup so the usual blue sea disconnect everyone seems to use doesn't work. I am also looking to expand my 600w setup (always!) so will probably go higher voltage in the future.

I have one of these on the battery side, but only rated for 48v:

Everything else I search above 48v goes to normal house hold breakers (requiring a breaker box).

I use a 48v 100 amp breaker although my system is 24v, off the roof.

I have my 3, 325 watt, 36 volt panels run in series.

Since I would never design or use a breaker or fuse that was less then the panels maximum output, I used a 15 amp, 120 volt switch.

In addition to other advice, I'll add that we have inline individual circuit breakers from the panels down to the controller. This way I can turn off/on panels at will, to see individual panel performance. (X's 5 Panasonic High Efficiency 240W 48V panels. Left room in the CB box, for two more panels CB's - if I ever decide to add more panels.)

Yep, a bit more inline resistance, but small overhead price to pay for added control of the system.

Best,
Smitty

BlueSea C Series Breakers
Maximum Voltage = 80V DC

or

breakers from Midnight Solar

As the voltage creeps up keep the max Voc for the solar controller in mind.

These DC breakers go up to 150 or 300V DC. Blue Sea stuff isn’t built for it. https://www.wholesalesolar.com/circuit-breakers
