Updating Inverter to Victron 12/3000 Inverter/Charger

I currently have a Magnum 1000 watt four year old inverter. The wire running to it has two black, two white, and two copper ground wires. How do I wire in the Victron 12V/3000 watt inverter/charger?

Is one set of wires the 'in' and the other set the 'out'?
If so, does it make a difference which ones I use for the 'in'?

Moving from a 1000 to 3000 inverter will likely need larger wires than existing - both on the 12vdc and 120vac connections.

As for the connections, suggest you download the install instructions for both and study the differences.

Yes the in and out 120 volt wires make a difference.

Check the 120 volt wiring. A 1000 watt inverter can use 14 gauge, a 3000 watt will need 10 gauge, maybe 12 gauge.

Battery cables may need to be doubled the size also. If you don't do that, the inverter will shut down under load.

Both the 120 volt and 12 volt wires are usually marked, check them for gauge size.

Thank you!
I'm biting the bullet and have an electrician coming out Friday afternoon. My residential refrigerator hasn't worked since I removed the old inverter and I'm full timing. I also bought a smart phase transfer switch that has to be installed so hopefully, he can get everything done tomorrow.

Good news is that I did get everything wired to charge my batteries from the solar panels. I think I have everything setup correctly from the inverter to the batteries so I'm happy with myself. I'll even be happier if I didn't screw up my refrigerator.

The electrician came out and spent about two minutes to get my refrigerator running then spent the rest of the hour reviewing my solar setup, inverter, and transfer switch. I guess they had no intention on wiring anything and spent an hour reviewing my setup. He said call them to schedule the wiring of the inverter and transfer switch after the holidays.

I didn't call them to review my refrigerator because I figured it would work once the inverter was wired. I'm having my doubts about their service. Maybe he came out to get an estimate for the job.

if the smart transfer switch is from am solar here's the wire diagram i used from am solar it was confusing at first till i call am solar for help

1.move the main breaker cable to the smart transfer switch
2.run your new inverter cable in/out to the smart transfer switch
3.run a jumper from the smart transfer switch to your oem transfer switch were you removed the main breaker cable

i installed my smart transfer switch next to the oem transfer switch cause i used the existing main breaker cable i had just enough cable to swing into the smart transfer switch and i purchase 6/3 electrical cable recommended from am solar

good luck
