Growth of Equalizer Systems Leads Days
Corporation Into Its Next Century

EKHART, Ind. — Equalizer Systems is leading Days Corporation into its next century as the fastest growing division of the Elkhart company that marks its 100th anniversary this year.

Equalizer Systems began in 1990 with the acquisition of a hydraulic leveling company from Nebraska. Leveling systems at that time were changing from a dealer installed item to an OEM standard feature. With so many RV companies around Elkhart, the possibilities for the new company looked promising.

Equalizer’s subsequent development of landing legs for the commercial (racecar, horse, utility) 5th wheel trailer market, along with the development and patent of its AUTO-LEVEL® leveling system, gave the division a great start.

Today, with the expanded designs in slide-outs, growth in RV fifth wheels, and renewed interest in the smaller, smaller Class C motorized market, Equalizer has experienced growth in the RV market as well as in the other markets it serves.

Equalizer occupies more than 100,000 square feet of manufacturing and installation space in Northern Indiana, and considers itself uniquely positioned to provide the service and support of a small company with the resources of a large corporation.

Started with a horse and wagon

John Days started the company in 1913 as a local delivery service using a horse and wagon. By the mid ‘30s it had become a successful regional truck line called Days Transfer. By the early ‘60s, the company also included such services as warehousing and heavy machinery moving. In 1988 the company was renamed Days Corporation and Jim Sproatt was added as a minority owner. Today he remains as the sole owner of the company.

Sproatt says Equalizer’s success is part of an ethic that has kept Days Corporation growing and going for the last 100 years.

“We believe our company is 100 years old for three reasons. Our diversification, our tradition of excellent service, and the loyalty of customers built on the development of strong business relationships,” said Sproatt.

“These relationships tell people that we’re in this for the long haul. This isn’t about doing one job and sending a bill. It’s about building solutions through these relationships that will to serve customers long-term. The way we have diversified and expanded our services over the years is, for the most part, a direct result of these relationships. The company has always looked to provide what regional businesses, including RV businesses, needed.”

Along with its Equalizer business, Days has seen a growing list of accounts with its Export Packing division, and anticipates a bright future with global exporting opportunities. Among other things, “we see significant interest in the exporting of boats and RVs to Europe, Australia and even China,” says Sproatt.
