Workhorse R Series Diesel Chassis Exclusively Powered by Caterpillar C7 in '07

Caterpillar and Workhorse Custom Chassis today announced that the Workhorse R Series Diesel chassis will be exclusively powered by the 7.2-liter Cat® C7 engine beginning in April 2007.

"Our alliance with Workhorse will provide motorhome customers with a wide range of C7-powered recreational vehicles to choose from," said Jeff Headean, sales manager, Caterpillar On-Highway Engines. "We're looking forward to a productive future with Workhorse."

The 7.2-liter C7 engine featured in the R Series chassis provides 350 horsepower at 2,400 rpm with 925 lb-ft of torque at 1,440 rpm. The 350 hp rating represents a significant boost in torque from the previous model, offering more power than ever before. This engine, which complies with the 2007 EPA emissions standards using Caterpillar ACERT™ Technology, may provide up to 4 percent improved fuel economy compared to the previous model.

The R Series Diesel chassis features a ground breaking design that includes a more forward and lowered engine placement and rear parallelogram suspension with a V-rod sway bar, which helps reduce tail wag and decrease body roll. Test drive surveys and owners have awarded the chassis high marks for its excellent ride and handling, according to Bob Wert, Workhorse vice president of sales and marketing.

"We are dedicated to bringing new choices to the RV consumer, and based on what we know consumers want, this was an irresistible match to make," Wert said.
