Workhorse’s New Breed Approach Delivers Choice and Value for Class A Motorhomes
Workhorse’s New Breed approach delivers
choice and value for Class A motor homes
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — (Dec. 1, 2009) Workhorse® is the first Class A chassis manufacturer to offer both gas and diesel engine choices for the same Class A motor home platforms — in what Workhorse Vice President of Marketing Tony Monda calls, “the current sweet spot of the Class A motor home market, 28- to 35-foot coaches.”
For Workhorse, “the whole we-know-gas vs. we-know-diesel debate is a moot point. We know both. We have both,” said Monda. “And either way, you’re riding on a platform that’s been market validated as providing the best ride, the best handling, the best performance — the best value. Period.”
Fuel economy and quiet diesel power
Capitalizing on Navistar’s strategy of leveraging what it has and what others have built, Workhorse recently introduced the MaxxForce® 7 engine as a front-engine diesel alternative for its 20,500 lb. and 22,000 lb. GVWR W20 and W22 gas chassis (W20D and W22D are the diesel models). The MaxxForce 7 brings best-in-class fuel economy and incredible torque (the ability to do work) for the first time to this GVWR segment of the Class A motor home market. Tuned for motor homes, the MaxxForce 7 is a 6.4L V8 platform with 230 horsepower and a hefty 620 lb.-ft. of torque. It has a well-earned reputation as a reliable and quiet truck engine, and in recent independent third party testing, delivered outstanding fuel economy of up to 13.2 mpg in the W20D chassis. The W20D chassis and MaxxForce 7 engine can both be seen in Workhorse Booth No. 3308 at the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky., this week.
8.1L Vortec: the gas legend
However, for those who still like the powerful performance of the big block engine, Workhorse continues to offer what can only be called the legendary 8.1L Vortec™ gas engine. This is the engine that, combined with Workhorse chassis innovations, helped drive Workhorse’s market success for the last decade, giving gas buyers tremendous performance and security in climbing, passing and merging situations, where it consistently outshone its competitor and made larger gas motor homes competitive with diesel-powered units. With its 8.1L engine, Vortec engineering produced a powerplant that maintains peak horsepower and torque at lower rpms to provide more power faster and longer.
“The 8.1 Vortec gave motor home owners peace of mind. Coupled with the Allison transmission and the Workhorse platform, motor home driving became easier and more responsive,” said Monda. “Driving a big Class A became more like an SUV than a truck, and that brought a lot of new customers through dealers’ doors.”
It’s the buyer’s choice
For the first time, there is a fuel-efficient diesel engine for motor homes with 20,500 and 22,000 lb. GVWRs along with exceptional Vortec gas power. “That choice is a tremendous value for the motor home buyer,” said Monda. “Backed by the deep resources of our Navistar parent, Workhorse will continue to be the customer’s advocate in the RV industry.”

Triker56, Neither you nor I can buy one of these things however that said the pricing of the completed coach is quite affordable. I don't have the MSRP off of the 4Winds Serrano however from what was told to me it's as competitively priced as many other front engine products are.
4 Winds Serrano dealers can be located: HERE.
Winnebago Industries is yet another OEM that uses a W20D in the Vista, Sunstar, Sunova and Sightseer lines.
For more information see the website located: HERE.
