New Rig
Well, here goes. I am new to the Rving world, have only pulled a T/T and most of it locally. Have been looking at class A motorhomes for some time, and have made the big plunge. 2005 Newmar,Northern Star 3933. Feel like I have jumped off the bridge without checking to see how deep the water really is. Havent got the rig home yet as our wonderful Canadian winter is relentless and refuses to quit. I am planning on retiring in Jul 2014. From there, will be getting ready for the snowbird world of warmer weather and sunshine. I have had enough of -35c and shovelling snow all winter.
Have no idea of what to expect, where to go(other than south). Would love to hear from some Rv'ers that have some experience and knowledge they can pass my way to help my adventure. I live in Elkford BC right now,and once the house sells, home is going to be where I park this rig. Couple of questions I have about the BLD land thing in USA. I understand one can boondock, but do you need to have a permit????? Is it a state permit or a general USA permit????? Where does one purchase the permit????? Also for those Canadians that purchase their motorhome insurance, any idea of a company to purchase good insurance from. We have to purchase basic ICBC ins, but from there where does one go???
Open to any suggestions, all a new learning experince for me.
Thanks

bobalooy08... congrats on your new coach. And congrats to being months away from your transition to an adventure lifestyle.
I can't speak to the insurance question but I'm sure if you do a search and then post any unanswered questions you'll get lots of info. iRV is a tremendous resource with a great community that is eager to assist.
As for your BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land question, there are no permits needed to boondock. There are millions of beautiful acres of national forest and BLM land open for public use. A good resource to get an overview of land designations are state map books; Benchmark and Delorme both publish excellent maps for each state that are packed with recreational information. Couple that with Google Earth and iRV postings and you have a ton of information. One thing to consider about BLM and national forest land is that the areas to boondock are not on improved roads, so driving a 40' coach on questionable dirt roads with questionable places to turn around has to be considered. Perhaps a Jeep for a toad would be a good idea to scout out areas before venturing onto the dirt. We have lots of experience boondocking when we had our small pop-up, not too much with our coach. There is a specific boondocking forum in iRV, I suggest you do a post to get feedback from others.
Best of luck and happy trails... and don't forget to post some pictures.
