This. How many are living in a 5th wheel in an RV park because it is cheaper than renting an apartment.

For right now I have SWMBO talked back from the New Class A coach ledge... for now. That may change at the Florida Stupid Show.
I have her focusing towards used coaches in what would be the 170-200k range. When I had her looking at some of my picks, she declared one as "perfect".
Our "Battle Plan" is to;
Replace rental trailer with a 1200-1300 SF house for rental and upgrade the septic system to handle the coach and an apartment.
Once that is occupied, build an RV port with apartment and garage for us and the stuff we leave behind and move out of the 2800 SF S&B.
Do a couple of repairs to that one and convert to rental.
Then it will be time to buy the Class A.....
After Monday night, her plan is to pour a pad, tie into existing septic for rental, have a power pole and meter installed, and then live in the Class A in the back corner of the driveway......
I guess that would make us 1,000,001 and 1,000,002.

Well... find and dandy, but it leaves the question unanswered. How many are full time as a past-time, and how may are unintentionally or inadvertantly full time?
This is coming up more and more often. The replies are predictable. What we don't have is useful data.
Not wanting to swerve the topic but expand on it a bit:
What I'm wondering... we have a lot of smart folks here, IT people, retired teachers and professors, maybe a few librarians... is there a way that we can use our "crowd" to develop better information? Kind of a "distributed observation" (as compared to SETI @home and other distributed computing models) platform?

Sold the farm, retired > bought a nice cookie cutter house in a nice cookie cutter neighborhood > hated suburban living, sold the house > bought a nice piece of property to build our dream home on and to live in the trailer during the build > enjoy being mobile so much, decided not to build and become gypsies. We stay at a location until we decide to move on but have a fully serviced home base to come back to at any time.

My idea of a full timer is someone who buys an RV and moves around the country on a REGULAR basis, because they want to travel and see the country. Some one who lives in an RV full time, in the same place for years, is NOT a full timer, but a trailer park resident.

We have full-timers, long-timers, snowbirds, weekenders, and park residents. All of these have one thing in common - they do it by choice.
There is another category of RVers who do it out of necessity. I don't know what to call them - maybe forced-timers?
I don't think anyone has real data on how many forced-timers there are, or how rapidly the number is growing (but it does seem to be growing). I'd also be interested in the demographic makeup of the group, but, again, no data. Are they mostly working class? Retired? Disabled? Immigrants? Families? Singles? Couples? I think we need these answers before the problem can even be addressed.

Does this still qualify us for "full timers"? We feel like we are.

According to that article, yes! It says some live in an RV because they can't afford a house, so it is not just on the road full-timers, it is anyone living in an RV full time.

Not all that many and mostly in a few areas where housing is ridiculously expensive. In the rest of the country it costs more to live in the RV than in an apartment and there are apartments available.
I think there is a confusion factor between folks who live in their RV on places like Portland OR or Silicon Valley because housing is scarce and expensive vs the one's who follow a migrating live style part or all of the year because of their chosen mode of work. Some of those folks are poor and some are very well paid. I suspect many look less well off than they are because their RV is a means to an end rather than their preferred end.

Based on the title I think the article is geared for 'nomad' - travelers, not homeless. Also, someone mentioned 'Amazon' as the backbone of this article. It's mentioned a couple times in the article because Amazon is a very popular place for traveling RVers to work during the holidays and other short times so I don't look as this as being an 'Amazon' article. Many traveling full-timers work at short jobs or volunteer for short stays. Then they're off traveling again. Those that are stationary in a park most likely aren't living in the cold states. Even if campgrounds would be open it would cost a fortune on heat which they couldn't afford. When we began full-timing 20 years ago there were estimates of hundreds of thousands of traveling full-timers. Nowadys many, many younger folks are doing this, not because they need to but because they can now easily use their computers to work from their RV and travel at the same time. There are groups geared for this such as an off-shoot of the Escapees organization called the Xscapers. There are also groups geared for full-timing families. They all travel and work. So, yes, I believe the numbers are getting higher and higher. They're finding, as we did, that owning 'stuff' weighs you down. Getting rid of it is truly liberating!

What about folks like pipeline crews, oil well drilling crews, tower crews, traveling circus folks, and probably a host of other working folks who use an RV of some kind as their portable home as they follow their jobs around the country?
