$1+ per mile
Now that diesel is consistently $6.00+ I figure it's a minimum of $1.00/mile just for fuel!
FO course that is ignoring all the other wear and tear!
Last summer I would tell my family "This mess takes $0.50/mile just for the fuel to keep us running down the road."
It seemed like a lot then.
Meanwhile oil companies reap record profits!

I feel for you bro....Thankfully I'm closer to .40/mile for fuel on my little rig (at $6/gal)(.33/mile at the $5 we've been paying here). Hopefully things will improve for everyone.

We are closer to $0.70 per mile figuring $6.00 per gallon diesel. That is flat land driving at 65 mph. I tried slowing to 55 to 60 mpg and I am off the torque peak and the fuel usage goes up as it forces a down shift with every little hill that is pulled with ease in 6th gear at 65 mph.
So do not tell me to slow down. It does not work when towing.

Wow,
I’m at 40 cents per mile with gasoline at $4.00/gal with towing mpg @ 10.5
Thought I might upgrade to a diesel truck, but, not any more. With diesel at $6.00/gal. The diesel tow rig would have to average 15 mpg to break even with the gas rig.

Just my $ 0.02 toward the expression, "Your mileage may vary".
2019 - $0.32 average cost per mile - 9,059 mi (last 6 mo)
2020 - $0.29 average cost per mile = -10% vs previous year - 9,400 mi (12 mo)
2021 - $0.42 average cost per mile = +41% vs previous year - 16,925 mi (12 mo)
2022 - $0.59 average cost per mile = +40% vs previous year - 3,232 miles (first 4 mo)

That's why we switched from a diesel to a gasser.
$4.00 GAL divided by 8MPG = $.50 / MILE
Where do you want to go honey ?

Well,
2020 I paid$1.70 a gallon round trip to Black Hills
2021 I paid $2.70 a gallon round trip to Glacier
2022 I will pay $5.70 a gallon round trip to Yellowstone
Oh well,
A $3000 fuel budget is now a $4800 fuel budget to Yellowstone only. If I was 40 or 50 yrs old, I guess I could wait. I’m not waiting I already did.
$1800 is nothing compared to depreciation, the clock ticking on me. I’m going.
I think th e whole yr is going to be about 14,000 miles including Florida and South Carolina this yr already.
Crank up those interest rate fast, every % higher is lots more for me. I want 14% prime again like 1981

We went to our AZ home last October, for about $950 in fuel costs. We are now on our way back to WI for the summer by way of ID to visit a daughter. It will be 250 miles further getting home and at a total fuel cost of about $1600. The extra cost is not a big deal when compared to the overall cost of the motorhome experience and our annual budget, but it takes a little getting used to when I pump in 110 gallons. We don't have unlimited years of travel left, so the fuel price, @ $.75/mile, won't affect our travels as long as we can get it when we need it.

Looks like we are all suffering the affects of lost energy independence as we suffer with volatile world oil prices.

Buy a yacht you will be excited how well the motorhome does. I burn 40 gallons an hour cruising. Probably wont see much action this summer. Got the motorhome all gassed up going to sip about 8 gallons an hour

Perfect
My Triton Bass boat wide open at 72mph get about 3 gallons per mile.
Or .33 mpg it’s fast and flys on plane.
