1kw Solar system

This install was not for RV'ing but one day I will build one for my RV.

Inverter/charger:
Output: 240vac 3200 watts True/Pure Sine Wave
Input: 24vdc
Charger: 80amps to battery bank with 240vac input

Solar Panels:
Output: 16vdc 53watts

Solar Array: 24 panels
6 strings of 4 panels in series
Output: 48vdc 1000 watts

Battery bank: 12 batteries
6 strings of 2 batteries in series
Output: 24vdc 10,800watts

DC charger:
Max amps: 80 amps
From solar array to batteries.
Input: 48vdc
Output: 24vdc

Hence the lack of solar panels; this array was more like a battery back up and powered my home for 6 hours max. The essentials were connected to this system: fridge, entertainment center, cooling, lights, etc. Heavy appliances were not connected: microwave, pool pump, clothes dryer, clothes washer, and dish washer.

This install was based on 2013 NEC. When I went for permit in 2016, they changed from flex conduit to EMT conduit required and separate grounding rod. Also, I was informed by building inspector that attaching to the fascia board was not legal. It would have cost over $500 to fix not including the permit. So I tore it down and hired solar company to install a 5kw system on the house. I still have the 1kw system and one day will install on the RV.

These are images I took as I built this for my house.

To add:

I should have dropped the $8k for the solar array and I would have been off grid.

I wanted to try the grid tie systems first. Didn't realize I was switching electric companies. I am buying my panels and inverter and once I pay them off I am definitely going off grid with grid tied as backup.

Everything I create over what I use will go into the battery bank and not the local electric company.

I didn't realize that having a grid tie system I still lose power when main power shuts off. I understand why though. The local electric company doesn't want power fed back into their system when they are working on it.

Haha, Thank you.

He is my idol. Including Tesla.

Not the company Tesla, the inventor, the company lost the vision of the original inventor, sad to say. This is my opinion after researching their products. I am very disappointed in the products performance versus costs.

Nichola Tesla was indeed a brilliant inventor. He was the inspiration of the making of a very popular music video. That’s how many many people learned of Nikola Tesla.

Not too many people knew of him. Several inventors during his time stole many of his ideas. Edison was one of them. He was a brilliant man when it came to earth batteries and other electrical devices.
