2 way radios

I want to have "walkie-talkie" radios for general purpose use ( backing up, hiking, general keeping up with whereabouts. Not a big fan of CB, but would consider one. What say you guys. You have more experience with this than I. New to RVing.

Cobra Micro Talk two way radios have worked well for us for many years. You can probably get them for a great price on Amazon.

The talk on CB radios today can be rather obscene. I would rather my wife not listen to it.

A couple months ago I took the HAM Technician exam. It took me about 15 hours of online studying. I actually found myself interested the more I learned, went back two weeks later and took the General.

I bought a dual band Handy Talkie (walkie talkie to most non amatuer radio operators) to carry in the motorcoach, not nearly the chatter as on CB but does what I need without the foul language.

I can also listen to am & fm radio, weather, police and aircraft bands, etc.

I've had several pairs of Cobra radios and they never seem to last very long. Usually the push to talk switch goes bad. I've had better luck with Midlands. We live in a rural area on a dead end road and all the neighbors have radios that are on 24/7. No strange vehicles go down our road unobserved or unannounced. There are eyes, ears and radios all over the place. Most all of them are Midlands.

We use a pair of "Baofeng" 2-way radios. $27 per PAIR. Rechargeable batteries with charger. Decent range. Keeps us married when we have to back up.

We purchased four of these Motorola units. They have a nice charger base and you can get an earpiece which comes in handy to use during set up in my opinion because you don’t have to handle the radio. The nice part is that they have a channel lockout out capacity with the sequence code so that you can pick a channel and sequence code and unless someone has duplicated those you can only hear each other. Others can still hear you but I really don’t care about that and I can’t hear them.

Trying to insert a picture here from Amazon they were $66 but I’m having technical difficulties

We have a pair, don’t remember the brand, but they have a weather radio built in. It’s kinda handy when away from the campsite.

Pair of Wally whirled motorola walkie talkies. We use them all of the time. Inexpensive and very handy.

I would always opt for Midland over Cobra.
We have a couple of Midland with advertised '38' mile range--use them very well to talk between my truck and wife following.

I ordered a pair of Midland radios that have USB charging ports plus the A/C charger. Being able to charge in the car was a deciding factor.
Thank all of you who responded. It seems as if you would be hard pressed to find a really bad unit.

I have CB and HAM hand helds, but bought Motorola MH230R 23-Mile Range 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios for use when camping. They work great are rechargeable.
