In the November (Ithink) edition of the Good Sam magazine, they were pushing a CD verion of the TL Directory.

Since we travel with a netbook that doesn't have a CD drive, I've been trying to find out more about the product, with a view to putting it on a thimb drive.

Has anyone bought it? If so, what do you think?

I have one that I buy every year haven't bought this years yet but in conjunction with RV park reviews it comes in handy although some time it can get you lost

I buy one every other year and use it extensively when traveling. I moved one off CD onto a hard drive once, but that was 4-5 years ago. Haven't tried it recently. By the way, I think it is a DVD now rather than CD, but that shouldn't have any impact on copying the files (except for total size).

We also buy one every other year and use it a lot. If you have a home network set up you may be able to install it on the netbook just by sharing the DVD drive on the network.

I bought one for 2008. Yeah, I know things have changed, but most of my trips are within 200 miles. I use it mostly for checking address and cost for trips. Works for me. Mine is installed on my laptop so I don't know if it can be installed on a thumb drive or not.

You are correct, buy the cd, open on your desktop or lappy at home. Plug your thumb drive in and grab the entire file folder and drop it on your flash drive. take that and plug into your notebook or netbook and install.
I have a little netbook I keep in my truck for work and have done the same thing. Should work just fine for ya.

Hi frankdamp,
I buy the DVD every year. I use it almost exclusively when traveling. It comes in real handy for overnight stops. While having lunch, at a rest area, I can bring up the map and all the CGs where I think I'll be in 3-4 hours. Then give the CG a call and make the reservation.

I find the paper version makes it very hard to find CGs if you don't know what city name they're listed under. It's not even easy in places you know fairly well.

Does the digital version have more comprehensive search capabilities?

Second question is whether the data is installed on the computer or does the operating program go back and forth to the DVD to retrieve it?

I transferred my 2008 version to my computer drive.

I like it because you can set up a route, then modify the route, then identify all the TL campgrounds near the route.

I generally limit the three ratings to 7 or higher in the CG search, then look at the descriptions provided including site width.

I just checked and I have the 2006 paper version. The last time I used it was probably a couple years or so ago.

I use the on line Passport America or the on line RV Park Reviews to find campgrounds.
Also my Laptop GPS can do a search for any campground within 100 miles of my location at the time. Some of them not even listed in any book or CD.

I have the 2010 version. What a great program. It's on the hard drive of our laptop. Will use it again in a week or so. Going to Santa Cruz, CA from Ocala, FL along I10.

I'll answer the second question first. I install the DVD on my laptop. The DVD is then placed in a safe. It is never used again. All the date is now on the laptop.

The search feature can be used in several ways:
CG Name
Street Address
Lat/Lon Coordinates
Zip Code
City
Landmark
