2019 Alaska Milepost now available

Not only is the 2019 edition of the Milepost available for any of you who are doing a little travel planning for Alaska this year, but Amazon is currently offering it at a nicely discounted rate. No, I don't make a commission - just trying to be helpful!

We love the Milepost for the history, small maps of areas and naturally, the mile by mile readings. We took turns with driving daily and we'd have the Milepost open constantly to read from it for the other's benefit as we were driving the specific areas.

However, for campground information the best is Mike & Terry Church's book 'Alaskan Camping' which includes Canada, also. They lived in Fairbanks and traveled to the lower 48 all the time so they know all kinds of campgrounds or boondocking spots out there. Good descriptions and directions.

The Milepost has been the go to guide for the Alaska Hwy for many, many years.
My mom and dad used it in the late 60's and early 70's. It's been around since 1949.

Keep in mind the information in the Milepost magazine is a year old when published, it takes that long to gather, edit for accuracy, then print and distribute. The roads are always in the same place, etc.
When we drove to AK in '12, many businesses advertised in the magazine were closed due to the recession hitting CA just as badly-or worse, as it did in the U.S.A.
I compared my '12 issue to last years, and the roads sections were practically verbatim.
It is a valuable resource for driving to/from AK though.
