30amp/30amp to 50amp plug

Our Dutch Star has a 50amp plug.

I am looking for any recommendations for a 30/30amp male to 50amp female adapter.

We are going to a friends this summer and he has 30amp hook ups and I have done a search and have found many adapters that will fit the bill.

I'm looking for either positive or negative information on specific brands.

TIA

If your friend only has a single 30A 120VAC, that is not the proper outlet.

If your friend has a 30A 240VAC outlet (welder outlet) an adapter will likely not work.

More info is needed to determine what will or will not work.

That is a 30 amp to 50 adapter. Just remember you are reducing your normal 100 amps of 120 to 30 amps. I would buy from Amazon or Walmart, that thing I posted is really high priced. If your friend has a 30 amp 220 plug (not common) with a 4 prong it can be used also with a different adapter. 3 prong 220 cannot be used. The caveat would be if it is in rigid conduit (pipe) that can be wired as the ground. And the outlet changed.

Actually the adapter he pictured will give 60 amps of 120 volts provided there are 2 TT-30 receptacles on different circuits available. OP can you have your friend take a pic of their 30 amp hookups and post it here? They should both look like the one in the pic below.

As for your question on brand, I would at least look for one with a listing.

If it were me I would just run the Generator.

Once you get there might be able to change plug or even run a new 50 but that all depends on how long your staying.

That type of adapter works fine as long as there are two independent (separate branch circuit) 30A outlets to feed from. That will provide 30A per leg for a total of 60A, vs the 100A available with true 50A service. I've used a similar twin-30A adapter dozens of times, at home and at a friends house. One caution: test the polarity of each 30A outlet before plugging in. If the installer reversed the hot & neutral on one of the two outlets, you will get a direct 30A short as soon as you connect the 50A shore cord to the adapter.

60A is enough to comfortably operate most coaches with a max of two a/c units. However, you might come up a bit short with both a/c blasting, microwave running, fridge cooling and the washer/dryer or electric water heater switches on. Just be a bit cautious when switching on the extra loads or one of the 30A source breakers will trip.

Never saw a pedestal with 2-30 amp receptacles unless one was a buddy site or the sites were set up for bi-directional parking. Only saw one of those though and it was an older park.

Please explain this statement:
We are going to a friends this summer and he has 30amp hook ups

30A Hookups.....as in Two?
Are they 120V on separate 30 Circuit Breakers?
Why would your friend have more then One 30A Hookup?

If your friend has 30A dryer or welder receptacles, DO NOT plug into them!!! It will get very expensive quickly.
This website explains why completely: https://www.myrv.us/electric/

DKRITTER,

What you pictured is a double 30 amp adapter. I know of a few Ga state parks that will provide double 30 amp sites and I have that adapter for that reason. If your friend has 2 - 30 amp 110 volt outlets for you to plug into then that will work. If he only has a single 30 amp outlet you will need a single 30 to 50 amp adapter.

That plug appears to combine two 30 amp rv plugs.

It would be odd to have two 30 amp rv plugs so close together. If so yeah it should work. Assuming the 2 legs are on opposite phases (otherwise you could put 60 amps on the neutral which is more then the 50 amps the plug is designed for).

If he has a 3 wire dryer plug it would be lacking a neutral wire, so wouldn't be appropriate.

If it's a 4 wire 30 amp plug then it will have the 4 wires that match a 50 amp rv, but you would need a special adapter. There are 2 types of 30 amp 4 wire plugs that I know of, the type used on a dryer and then the twist lock type often used on generators.

Have him send you a picture of the receptacle(s), then you will know what you have to work with.

My sincere, sincere, sincere apologies for the wording in my original post. When I looked at it, it made perfect sense to me. I guess I'm a little different.

Let's kinda start over.

Like I said in the origanal post "I am looking for any recommendations for a 30/30amp male to 50amp female adapter." before we go any farther this is exactly what I am looking for this is for 2 110v 30amp pedestals that are back to back going to a 50amp/50amp 110v female plug. I know I will only be able to get 30amps out of each side. The picture above is worth a thousand words.

This has nothing to do with welders or dryers or 220v plugs.

My friend many years ago had an electrician and a plumber put in the ability to hook up as many as six RV's. There are 6 pedestals 2 each back to back and one water hookup and one sewer hookup. Is this the right way, no but it woks fine and it's free. Usually the most there are 1, 2 maybe 3 RV's so it in reality works out.

Last year it was wonderful with the exception of late afternoons. The eastern plains of Colorado gets hot in the afternoon. So every afternoon I'd go shut off the 30amp breaker (I had a 30 to 50amp adapter) off and fire up the generator so I could run multiple a/c's. After sunset I'd turn off the generator and go down and flip the breaker back on knowing it would be what we call the "or switch". By that I knew I could run 1 a/c or the microwave or a hair dryer or a coffee pot or, or, or and on and on. Certainly not the best solution but it worked.

My friend offered to run a new 50amp plug to the parking area but I said that's to costly. His panel was pretty well full so he would need a new one, plus running a new line to the parking area and a new pedestal was in my opinion to much.

The adapter above is exactly what I am looking for. I used something like this in Raton NM at an older park last year and it met our needs.

Since my friend has pedestals that are back to back I can plug each side into the 2 110v 30amp plug pedestals and have 110V 30/30amp female plug, that I can plug my RV in would solve my afternoon dilemma by being able to run 2 a/c's at the same time.

I am looking for either positive or negative recommendations on any specific brands.
