We recently had a hot tub delivered--for theraputic reasons. I was really surprised with the cost of running a 50 amp circuit to the tub, installing a GFC/hot tub circuit breaker box and all the conduits. It's a $1K job if an outside electrician was hired.

Fortunately color diagrams are available online, and I had no problems running the circuit. Now, I've got to patch the 5 holes in the ceiling that had to be made to snake the wire through the basement ceiling.

When you're running heavy electrical circuits, be careful.

X2 !
50 amp RV is 2 120v lines ie: 25a x2 = 50a
If you hook up an RV 50a to a 240v connection you will indeed be calling a fire dept & "smoke" everything in your RV.

You guys need to understand 50 amp service. Here is an excerpt from this site.

http://www.myrv.us/electric/Pg/50amp_Service.htm

The 50-amp*120/240-volt*3 pole 4 wire grounding Service

This*50-amp*service*has 4 wires with two 120-volt HOT feeds.*It is a*misconception*that this 50-amp RV service is something special.*This service is a STANDARD 120/240 50-amp 3 pole with 4 prongs used for*numerous*applications.*

From this common service we can draw 120 or 240 volts. Each leg is 50 amps @ 120 volts. 50-amp X 120-volt = 6000 watts. But since there are 2 HOT 120-volt* legs at 6000 + 6000 = 12,000 watts to use in the RV or 50-amp X 240-volt = 12,000 watts when used as a 240-volt service.*

Here is another site with more detail.

WOW! Where did anyone say anything about plugging an RV into a plug wired for something else? If you read that from what I posted I can see you definitely need to hire a licensed electrician.

Everything has been working great. I've had both A/C's running in the MH while working inside. It's as easy as unplugging the RV and plugging in the air compressor when it's needed. I'm really glad I went with the 50 amp plug instead of just having enough for the compressor

You're correct. People hear 50 amp RV outlet and they freak out for some reason.
