I found a couple of small tears in mine last year. Used the white flex tape. Still holding great.

I helped my cousin(both our Dads were WW II Navy, I learned a lot from reading dad's blue jacket manual), do that same thing to his main awning 5 years ago, it's still holding great, you can't even see the clear awning tape with nylon strands embedded in it.
