AARP/The Hartford ??
Hello friends.
I have my vehicles insured through The Hartford/AARP.
Recently they added Motor Home Roadside Assistance, at NO extra charge.
Do any of you have this insurance and, have you used the roadside assistance part of it?? If you have, what was your experience with it??
I had AAA and I let it lapse because of the limited service for towing so I am looking at other roadside assistance plans out there and I have read most all of your experiences with them. If Hartford does not cover the towing etc in a good way that WE like I will find another program.
I think I will call Hartford and inquire.
Thank you for your responses, very much appreciated.

Hopefully someone will get you the information you are asking about, but my comment would be that if it’s free, you will likely get exactly what you paid for.

I can't answer your question on AARP/Hartford insurance question. But I have received the offers from AARP over the 18 years and I just toss them. Why?
I look at reviews some are good, and some are bad. Plus, I also have relied on past experience of insurance carriers for me. I have had great luck with State Farm which I have all of my vehicles and home plus trailer insured with them.
I have used State Farm at 8:00 AM on a Sunday Morning in the middle of NE on I80 when a tire on my old trailer exploded and I needed it changed. A half hour later I was on my way. State Farm has always stood by be and they might not be the cheapest, but they are reliable.
I also believe you get what you pay for, buy cheap and may not be happy with the results.
Just my $0.02.

We steer clear of AARP-associated businesses. AARP is not an advocacy organization for folks over 50; it is an advertising agency. I think it stands for American Association for Ripping off Pensioners.

I called Hartford yesterday and talked to them about this. It actually doesn't sound too bad. But the proof would be when you call them for help.
I have had Hartford for my vehicle insurance for many years, so far so good. No complaints. But really I was looking for someone who had experience in this regard. But I do appreciate all of your replies, thank you.

My truck is insured with Hartford (AARP Discount)
Had to have truck towed Once about 2 yrs ago.....put key in ignition and no start just horn honking/lights flashing
Called Hartford......tow truck arrived 2 hours later
Hartford was responsive....tow company was 'busy'??
No hassle with Hartford.

We compared State Farm, AllState and AARP/Hartford. Hartford won out for vehicle insurance rates on the very same coverage. We check every 2-3 years. As to their 'new' roadside, do comparisons of what others would cover.

We have had Hartford now for several years. I do a cost comparison every year, and I cannot find any companies that can compete. We have our house insured with them as well. State Farm came in $1000 more than them.
Will be looking into their roadside assistance for sure. Currently using Bad Sam Roadside. But it looks like only the first 100 miles is covered. No better than AAA (Automobile Club) which I recently cancelled.

I've been with The Hartford for the past four years. Insurance on the motorhome has only increased $3.00 in that time period.
If you complete the AARP Defensive Driving Course you can get a discount on your policy.
Their roadside service for motorhomes is unlimited covering labor and towing, and is applied automatically free of charge.

Agree, I don't do business with anything tied to AARP.

Hi neighbor.
Did you have a bad experience with Hartford??
I do not know if AARP has any influence on Hartford or not. Doesn't really matter if one is satisfied with Hartford.
Also, someone mentioned not doing business with anything tied to AARP. Again, what was your experience with AARP to say that? Just wondering.
Others have said they are happy with their insurance company such as State Farm and will stick with them. I would do the same if I was happy with them as well. It would take a bad experience for me to change insurance company including rates. 10 or 20 dollars would not move me.
I thank all of you great and kind folks for being here.
Have a Great Year. Spring is slowly on it's way. Enjoy.

No.... you don't need AARP to get Hartford insurance. That said I have no qualms with AARP.

Auto insurance
Best way to check on auto insurance is to visit your body shop. Ask them who is the best and worst, they know. Some of the worst will only fix your car with after market parts that are generally a lighter gauge or lesser quality part. While this may not have a direct line to free towing you have to figure if they are cheap on the repair parts the towing may be in the same class.

Good suggestion, and also to find out if there are any insurance companies they don't deal with.
The shop I used to go to in the states no longer will accept Geico or Farmers as they can't get paid in a timely manner. Policy holders have to pay the shop and then wait for payment from the company.
